Our Mission
MRG Safari is an online reading programme developed by Elizabeth Nadler-Nir, a Cape Town-based speech-language therapist. It's a dual-purpose tool — used by therapists and learning-support teachers in their rooms, and equally by parents and older siblings supporting a developing reader at home.
In partnership with Beyond Co, the programme is currently running in Ocean View and Kommetjie — putting one-to-one reading support in reach of the families around us.
The developing reader works online alongside a real-life mentor — a therapist, parent, older child, or teacher. Together they move through reading passages that start at the reader's own level of ability, working on word meanings, error words, phonics and letter patterns, repeated reading, and comprehension questions.
The programme's reward system takes readers on a safari, with rewards earned along the way. Passages are short, varied, and interesting. Progress is displayed in real time, so both mentor and reader see the gains as they happen.
MRG Safari (previously called VRG) won the 2019 International Excellence Award for Learning Resources — a testament to Elizabeth's decades of work in speech-language pathology and her commitment to making reading intervention accessible, affordable, and enjoyable for every family.
